Hummer is coming back!

Hummer EV

The Hummer is a brand of large, rugged vehicles that were originally developed for military use. The first Hummer, the Humvee (short for “High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle”), was developed by AM General. A company that had previously been involved in the production of military vehicles for the U.S. government.

The Humvee was designed to be a highly mobile and versatile vehicle that could be used in a variety of military applications, including transport, reconnaissance, and support. It was first used by the U.S. military during the invasion of Panama in 1989. After that, it quickly became an iconic symbol of military power.

In 1992, AM General began producing a civilian version of the Humvee, called the Hummer H1. The H1 was a large, rugged vehicle with military-grade components and a powerful engine. It was marketed as a luxury SUV for off-road enthusiasts. The H1 was followed by the Hummer H2 and H3, which were smaller and more fuel-efficient versions of the original Hummer, aimed at a wider market.

The Hummer brand gained a reputation for its ruggedness and off-road capabilities. Although it also faced criticism for its poor fuel efficiency and environmental impact. In 2010, General Motors, which had been the owner of the Hummer brand since 1999, announced that it would discontinue the brand. It was due to declining sales and concerns about the environment. The Hummer brand was eventually acquired by a Chinese company, Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. They did not start the production of Hummer vehicles yet.

In recent years, there have been efforts to develop electric versions of the Hummer. GM has concerns about the environmental impact of traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

One notable example of an electric Hummer is the GMC Hummer EV, which is being developed by General Motors. The GMC Hummer EV is an all-electric pickup truck that is expected to be available for sale in the fall of 2021. The Hummer EV is being marketed as a high-performance, off-road vehicle with advanced technologies and features, including a battery pack with a range of over 350 miles, four electric motors, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3 seconds.

Other companies have also announced plans to develop electric versions of the Hummer. For example, Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, a Chinese company that acquired the rights to the Hummer brand in 2010, has announced plans to develop an electric Hummer SUV. However, it is not clear when or if these vehicles will actually be produced and made available for sale.

Overall, the development of electric Hummer vehicles is an ongoing process, and it remains to be seen what the final products will look like and when they will be available for purchase.
