Electric Car of the Year 2023

At the New York International Auto Show, Hyundai’s premier electric vehicle, the Ioniq 6, has made waves in the automotive industry by securing the prestigious title of the 2023 World Car of the Year. This remarkable feat is accompanied by two other esteemed accolades, as the Ioniq 6 has also received recognition as the World Electric Vehicle and World Car Design of the Year, further cementing its position as an unparalleled leader in the industry.

Hyundai Motor Company has once again emerged victorious with the Ioniq 6, achieving the same trifecta of awards as its predecessor, the Ioniq 5, did the previous year. This remarkable achievement is further compounded by the recent recognition of SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center, as the 2023 World Car Person of the Year. Mr. Lee was present at the event to receive these well-deserved accolades, further highlighting Hyundai’s position as a leading innovator in the automotive industry.

In addition to the Ioniq 6’s well-deserved triumph, other exceptional vehicles were also honored at the New York International Auto Show. The Lucid Air, a luxurious electric vehicle, was recognized as the 2023 World Luxury Car award winner, while the Kia EV6 GT, an electric performance car, took home the 2023 World Performance Car Award. The Citroen C3, a compact urban vehicle, was also recognized as the 2023 World Urban Car award winner. These vehicles were selected from a shortlist of the top three contenders, which was announced last month, further highlighting the diversity and excellence of the modern automotive industry.

Even though Hyundai has not made any official announcements regarding the introduction of the Ioniq 6 in India, the vehicle was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year and received significant attention. On the other hand, the Citroen C3, which won the 2023 World Urban Car award, is based on the CMP platform, which is the same as the car sold in India, rather than the PF1 platform used for the European model. This highlights the importance of designing vehicles that cater to local markets and demonstrates the versatility of modern automotive platforms.
