Toyota Recalls Over 443,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid for this reason

Toyota has announced a major safety recall affecting 443,000 model year 2022–2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickup trucks in the U.S. due to a defect that could cause the reverse lights to fail, increasing the risk of collisions while backing up. The recall stems from a design flaw in the reverse light assemblies, where a multi-layer vent patch may separate over time due to thermal cycling, allowing moisture to seep in. This can lead to corrosion of the circuit board, connector, or wiring harness, causing one or both reverse lights to stop working.

Affected Vehicles

  • Models: 2022–2025 Toyota Tundra (gasoline and hybrid variants).
  • Production Dates:
    • Gasoline models: May 10, 2021, to March 26, 2025.
    • Hybrid models: June 30, 2021, to March 20, 2025.

Toyota dealers will:

  1. Replace both reverse lamp assemblies with improved versions at no cost.
  2. Inspect and repair wiring harnesses if corrosion is detected. Owners who previously paid for repairs can seek reimbursement through Toyota’s General Reimbursement Plan.

Timeline and Notifications

  • Owner notifications will begin by mid-July 2025 (some reports indicate letters may arrive as early as late June).
  • Recall codes: Toyota’s internal codes 24TB06/24TA06 and NHTSA campaign 25V322000.

This marks the 11th recall for the 2022 Tundra, following past issues like engine replacements due to metal debris in 2024. While Toyota assures prompt fixes, the recurring problems have sparked concerns among owners about the model’s reliability.
