Renault Boreal 2026: Alcazar competitor is here

Renault’s upcoming global 7-seater SUV, the Renault Boreal, has been spotted testing in Europe for the first time. The model was officially announced last month as part of Renault’s renewed focus on emerging markets, and it is set to debut first in Latin America, followed by a 2026 launch in other global markets, including India.

While the Boreal shares its platform with the Dacia Bigster, it sports a distinct exterior design that sets it apart. Spy shots reveal a trapezoidal front grille with horizontal slats, a wide air dam, and an upright SUV stance. The side profile shows square-shaped wheel arches, a long flat roofline, and a raked rear windscreen, giving it a robust yet balanced look. Additional design elements include a roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, and rear wiper, contributing to its utilitarian appeal.

Unlike many new Renault EV concepts, the Boreal sticks to a conventional internal combustion powertrain. Under the hood, it will feature a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 167 BHP, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. A flex-fuel version will also be offered in Latin American markets, aligning with regional fuel policies and preferences.

Renault is positioning the Boreal as a practical 3-row SUV for families, aiming to compete with models like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus in markets like India. While details about the interior and features remain under wraps, the SUV is expected to offer modern infotainment, safety features, and flexible seating configurations to suit its global family-car positioning.

With its initial launch slated for Latin America later this year, Renault plans to expand the Boreal’s reach across Europe and Asia by 2026.
